We have recently had the privilege of delivering some once used bourbon barrels to some local craft breweries in the Upper Highway area.
We are happy to have delivered barrels to the Stumpnose Brewery and also Nguni Brewing
Stumpnose Brewery & Taproom
Pictured here are the two barrels now at Stumpnose as well as some of their canned IPA beers 🍻
A bit about Bourbon Barrels
The bourbon barrels are excellent for adding that extra bit of flavour to the:
Many beers are aged in barrels which were previously used for maturing spirits. Imperial stouts are often aged in bourbon barrels, which impart flavours of American oak (coconut, dill, sweet spices), accentuated by charring of the barrel interior.[25][26]Bourbon barrels are by far the most common oak barrels used by brewers in the United States. Each distillery uses its own blend of oak and its own level of charring, leading to distinct differences in the sorts of flavours that brewers can derive from the used barrels.[1][2]

The great thing about bourbon barrels is that bourbon is required to be aged in a new barrel, so when the barrel is used with beer it still has a lot of the flavours from the oak, charred areas and the bourbon.
The Bourbon barrels we are supplying to local breweries in the South Africa area are all once used and still wet. They also smell real good 😄
We still have some in stock if you are looking for a barrel or two.
